Baruntse Expedition (32) Days

Trip Introduction

Baruntse Expedition to 7129m/23,370ft high and straightforward to climb Baruntse Peak is considered an easy 7000m peak for an experienced climber but it is a challenging objective to aspiring high altitude climber and hence the Baruntse Expedition becomes increasingly more popular especially for first time 7000m climbers. There are good reasons to choose Baruntse Expedition climb, as an alternative to Amadablam climb or Pumori climb, due to its elevation, location, relatively low objective danger and spectacular access options through remote Makalu trek from Tumlingtar or from Lukla via Mera La pass and Hinku valley. Choosing access via Mera La gives climbers the opportunity to execute acclimatization and warm up climb on Mera peak. Another nice feature of Baruntse Expeditionis an option of crossover from Lukla to Tumlingtar adding to attractiveness of Baruntse Expedition and avoiding weather dependent return flight from Lukla.

Mount Baruntse being tucked away from standard Everest base camp trek has been a very remote and quiet peak however it is rapidly gaining popularity due to classics like Pumori or Amadablam being overcrowded by commercial operators. It was first ascended by New Zealand mountaineers Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow on 30 May 1954 via south-east Ridge, which became the normal Baruntse climbing route.

From climbing aspect Baruntse Peak has slightly higher objective danger exposure than Pumori with 50deg climbing slope increasing avalanche danger but in general it is an accessible climb with tremendous views on Everest, Makalu and Khumbu region peaks. The best summit chances are during spring climbing season, however Mount Baruntse is also climbable in the autumn.

Halesi Treks operates Baruntse base camp facility every spring during Baruntse climbing season. We offer quality service in Baruntse base camp and provide both Baruntse full board service and Baruntse base camp service only. Choosing Snowy Horizon Adventure you choose quality, schedule flexibility, agile operations and professional approach ensuring your safety, which is the priority for professional and experience climbers.
