Jiri to Everest Base camp Trekking (23) Days

Trip Introduction

Jiri to Everest Base Camp and Kala pattar is a highly praised trekking route of the Everest region. It was in 1953 when two renown figures Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr. Tenzing Nogey Sherpa had taken the same route for the Mt. Everest expedition. This trek is breathtaking and requires a good walking experience and a good physical health condition. After an eight hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Bhandar our trek starts the following morning, by passing through the lower parts of Everest region. This trek is very interesting walking with its panoramic view of Everest 8848m, Cho Oyu 8152m, Lhotse 8516m, Makalu 8463m and Ama Dablam 6456m. through the famous Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Buddhist Monastery, Khunde Khumjung etc.

This enables trekkers to experience many traditional aspects of culture and local people. The trail passes through numerous villages of different ethnic groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, Chettri and of course the Sherpa’s. Walking along this trek involves many ups and down hills with the trail being well serviced with tea houses and good campsites in most of the villages.

Being a combination of two treks that passed from Namche Bazaar, the main trading village of the Khumbu area continuing via Gokyo valley, Chola pass, Lobuche, Everest Base Camp and up to Kalapattar then back down to Tengboche monastery and all the way to Lukla.

Overnight at guesthouse, inclusive of full board meals

Day 14: Trek to Dingboche (4410m) 5 hrs

Descend through a beautiful forest then cross the Imja Khola and trek through the village of Pangboche (3900m); perhaps today is the most interesting trekking because you will not lose altitude like on other days and you will enjoy views of Mt. After breakfast you ascend Nagerjun (5100m), a hill located on the flanks of the Chhukung valley directly above Dingboche. The main aim is to climb high and sleep low. The foot path becomes steep at times, resulting in a physically challenging day – ascending the hill could take up to 5 hours at altitude. From this altitude there are good views of Lobuche East (6119m), Lobuche West (6145m), Taboche Peak (6367m), Thamserku (6608m), Kangtega (6685m) and Ama Dablam (6856m). On a clear day you could even see Makalu, the world’s fifth highest mountain, including great views of the Pheriche Valley. After a short rest, you start the descent back to Dingboche – the walk at altitude takes about 2 hours. After lunch you should take a well deserved rest, afternoon temperatures could drop rapidly as the sun sets over the mountain tops. You will spend a second night in Dingboche. Overnight at guesthouse, inclusive of full board meals

Day 16: Trek to Lobuche (4910m) 5 hrs

Trek along a broad valley floor to Dughla, passing the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche (4240 m), staffed by western volunteer doctors and supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association which offers treatment and consultation to trekkers.
