Khecheoparli Lake

Located at a distance of about 33 km from Pemayangtse, the sacred Khecheoparli Lake is surrounded by verdant forests.

Literally means ?the meeting place of three learned monks? this place, set amidst pristine hills and lakes, is the historical hamlet of Yuksom. Perched at 1780m above sea level, it was here that in 1641 AD that the first Chogyal of Sikkim Phuntsok Namgyal was consecrated by the three lamas. Also a starting point for all treks into west Sikkim.

Situated on the top of a conical hill, 16 km from Yuksom is the Tashiding Monastery, looked upon as the most sacred monastery of Sikkim. Legend has it that pilgrims are cleansed of all their sins if they only contemplate the great sacred chorten (Thongwa-RangDot) of Tashiding.

It lies at an elevation of 10,000 ft. and has a motorable road access upto Hilley. An easy 4 kms trek from there takes one up to the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. One can also trek from Soreng or Dentam in West Sikkim. The place provides a magnificent view of the mountains. Visitors can halt at 'Guras Kunj' trekkers' hut.
